Charges laid in East Hants driving incident
The RCMP has laid charges against a 29-year-old man following a complaint of dangerous driving that was reported last evening.
East Hants District RCMP responded to a call of an erratic driver at around 10 p.m. on April 30. Police located the vehicle and made several attempts to stop it, however the driver was behaving erratically and did not stop for police. The driver of the small red car struck nearly struck an RCMP officer, then side swiped an RCMP vehicle as police attempted to get it stopped.
The driver was eventually arrested after a short struggle with police. He was taken to hospital to be checked as a precaution, however was not injured. No other injuries resulted from this incident.
Michael Alexander Stockermans, 29, has been charged with:
- Dangerous Driving
- Assaulting Police
- Assault With a Weapon
- Resisting Arrest
- Flight From Police
The driver has been held in custody pending a court appearance in Shubenacadie Provincial Court later today. His vehicle has been seized and an RCMP Traffic Analyst was called to examine the scene. Highway 14 in Upper Nine Mile River was closed while police were on scene, however it has since re-opened. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
