Man charged following firearms incident

At 12:52 p.m. on March 4, Cumberland District RCMP responded to a call on Old Halifax Rd. indicating a man with a gun was running towards their home. The man was wearing a balaclava, camouflage clothing, and was carrying a rifle with a scope.

RCMP officers in the area, including an RCMP dog and handler, responded immediately and arrested the suspect without incident. No one was hurt during the incident. The suspect and the residents of the home are known to one another.

Police transported the suspect to Amherst Detachment where her was held in custody until he appeared in Amherst Provincial Court on March 5. Thirty-year-old Tyler Dara Stronge of New Salem, Cumberland County, is charged with:

    Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
    Wearing a Mask While Committing an Indictable Offence
    Possession of a Break-in Instrument
    Fail to Comply with an Undertaking (2 counts)
    Careless Use of a Firearm (2 Counts)
    Possession of a Firearm Knowing Possession is Unauthorized
    Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

Stronge was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on March 7.

The investigation is ongoing.
