Man charged with several offences after firearms incident

On March 8, Annapolis District RCMP responded to a call reporting an incident where one man had been assaulted by another man with a handgun.

Police determined that the two men had been drinking at a residence at about 3 p.m. that day, when the suspect brought out a handgun. An argument started, then the two began fighting. During the altercation, the suspect struck the victim in the head with the pistol, leaving him with a cut to his forehead. The victim left the home and called police.

RCMP went to the home on West Dalhousie Rd. and arrested the man. He was aggressive with police, and resisted. He was arrested and will be held in custody pending a court appearance on Monday in Digby Provincial Court.

Donald Wayne Junior Hannam, 56, of West Dalhousie, Annapolis County, is charged with:

    Assault With a Weapon
    Uttering Death Threats
    Possession of a Prohibited Firearm and Ammunition Without a Licence
    Unsafe Storage (2 counts)
    Assaulting a Peace Officer
    Pointing a Firearm
    Resisting Arrest

The investigation is ongoing and further charges may be laid.
