Severe thunderstorm warning issued for parts of Cape Breton

A severe thunderstorm WARNING is now in effect for the following counties:
• Richmond County
• Victoria County
• Sydney Metro and Cape Breton County
• Inverness County - south of Mabou

At 5:00 p.m. ADT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain.

An area of strong thunderstorms will affect communities near the Bras D'or Lakes. This area of thunderstorms is moving generally eastward at 30 km/h. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
