Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for southwestern to northern mainland Nova Scotia.

A potentially significant period of ice pellets and freezing rain is expected beginning on the evening of Wednesday, April 5, and ending Thursday morning.

Southwestern Nova Scotia should expect rain Wednesday evening that becomes mixed with, or changes to, freezing rain.

Central areas of the mainland will see ice pellets and rain transitioning to freezing rain overnight Wednesday.

Northern regions can expect snow, possibly mixed with ice pellets, changing to ice pellets or freezing rain Thursday morning.

As this system develops Environment Canada will post additional information and possible warnings to the areas affected.

Similar conditions in the past have led to utility outages and hazardous driving conditions.
