Halifax police charge man with attempted murder concerning shooting in Dartmouth

Halifax Regional Police charged a man in relation to a shooting that took place in Dartmouth on Feb. 19, 2024.

In a release, police say that around 3:10 a.m. they received a report of gunshots fired in the area of Catherine Street and Lahey Road in Dartmouth.

Upon arriving at the scene officers located a 21-year-old man with a gunshot wound. The man was taken to hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Police arrested a suspect in the area a short time later without incident.

Police say 23-year-old Trequawn Smith was scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on Feb. 20 to face charges including:
• Attempted Murder
• Use of firearm in the commission of offense
• Careless handling of firearm x 2
• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
• Possession of prohibited device
• Unauthorized possession in a motor vehicle x 2
• Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition x 2
