Bridgewater Police arrest man following reports of robbery, break and enter

Bridgewater Police arrested a man following reports of a robbery and a break and enter on the evening of April 5, 2023.

Police said they received a call at around 10:30 p.m. from an employee at the Needs Gas Station on LaHave Street. The employee reported that a physical confrontation had taken place and that the store had been robbed of cigarettes by a male wearing a red jacket and hoody. The employee reported that the male fled on foot.

"The Bridgewater K-9 Unit, which was on duty, started a track immediately following the report. The K-9 tracked the suspect to a residence located in a manufactured home park off North Street. Upon investigation, it was determined the suspect had already left that area," Bridgewater Police wrote in a release.

At 11:48 p.m. Bridgewater Police received a 911 call for a break and enter in progress at the Lawtons Drug Store on North Street. The caller reported that they heard glass smashing at the store.

Police said that when they arrived they saw a male running from the scene. After a foot chase police arrested the male, who fit the description of the earlier robbery.

The man arrested was 41-year-old Brian Joseph Dobbin of Bridgewater. He has been charged with:
▪ Robbery under Section 344(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)
▪ Theft under Section 334(b) of the CCC
▪ Break and enter with intent under Section 348(1)(b) of the CCC
▪ Mischief under Section 430 of the CCC
▪ Possession of stolen property under Section 354(1)(a) of the CCC
▪ Resisting arrest under Section 129(a) of the CCC
▪ Breach of probation under Section 733.1 of the CCC
▪ Two counts of possession of a narcotic under Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

Dobbin was scheduled to appear in Bridgewater Provincial Court on April 6.
