RCMP charge Chester Basin man with pointing a firearm

Lunenburg District RCMP has charged a man with persons and firearms offences after an incident in Chester Basin on March 19, 2023.

Police say that on March 19, at around 4:15 p.m., Lunenburg District RCMP responded to a report of an incident involving a firearm on Lower Grant Road in Chester Basin.

RCMP officers say that a 60-year-old man threatened a 13-year-old and pointed a firearm at the youth during an argument. A 41-year-old man arrived at the home and the 61-year-old man initiated a physical confrontation with him. The 61-year-old man then ran out of the house with the firearm and returned empty-handed a short time later.

Police safely arrested the 60-year-old man and transported him to the Bridgewater Rural Detachment. RCMP Police Dog Services assisted and located the firearm used in the incident in a nearby wooded area.

Gregory Charles Winter, 60, of Chester Basin, has been charged with:
• Assault with a Weapon;
• Pointing a Firearm;
• Assault;
• Uttering Threats;
• Careless Use of a Firearm;
• Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose;
• Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm;
• Possession of a Firearm While Knowing Possession is Unauthorized;
• Use of a Firearm in the Commission of an Offence

Winter was held in custody and released by Bridgewater Provincial Court on March 22, 2023. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 19.
