RCMP charge 24-year-old Douglas Porter with arson in fish plant fire

A 24-year-old Yarmouth County man has been charged with arson in relation to a fire that took place at a fish plant in Middle West Pubnico in October, 2020.

On October 16, 2020, around midnight, Yarmouth County RCMP responded to a fire at a fish plant in Middle West Pubnico. The fish plant, which was unoccupied at the time, was completely destroyed by the blaze.

Investigators determined that the fire was deliberately set and identified a suspect in the incident.

On July 14, police arrested Brendon Douglas James Porter, of East Pubnico, without incident. Police have charged Porter with arson, under section 434 of the Criminal Code. Porter was held in custody overnight and appeared before a judge in Yarmouth Provincial Court on July 15. Porter was released on strict conditions and is scheduled to appear in Shelburne Provincial Court on August 25, at 9:30 a.m.
