Spring Cultural Trade Mission to Proceed Without Maud Lewis Exhibit

PRESS RELEASE

The works of Maud Lewis will not be travelling to China this spring. The province received word from the Guangdong Museum of Art in China that the Nova Scotia art exhibit launch will be postponed.

"We are disappointed that the artwork of Maud Lewis and other Nova Scotia artists will not be shared with the people of China this spring," said Communities, Culture and Heritage Minister Leo Glavine. “We believe there is tremendous potential to be explored for our creative sector in China and will continue to stay in close contact with our cultural colleagues in China to hopefully secure a new date for the exhibition.”

The Maud Lewis/Terroir exhibit, celebrating the works of Maud Lewis and other contemporary female Nova Scotian artists in China, was scheduled to be launched during the Nova Scotia cultural trade mission this spring.

The remainder of the mission, to be led by Mr. Glavine, will explore cultural economic opportunities in Japan and the United Kingdom. Further details around the mission will be released later this year.
